Hello 2018! I am so excited to begin this year!
Well, I’ve decided to hop on the bandwagon and select a word to guide me throughout the upcoming year. The idea of a specific word of the year versus a list of resolutions works better for me. I tend to rebel when given a list of “musts” and am better suited to following an intention. Detailed lists to achieve tasks are important tools, but overarching resolutions can feel too big for me at times. I have thought for a while about what I want this year to signify for myself and family. My word for 2018 is “clear”.
My hope is that this year will be filled with clear purpose and passion. I hope to discover more about how I can impact and help others both through personal relationship and my work. I have many areas of interest and I hope to discover how they intersect to create meaningful work. While spending the last few years wandering down paths created by various life circumstances, I have finally reached a point where I am content, yet hopeful for what lies ahead.
My family continues to be of central importance to me as I am responsible for raising young children. The kids continue to grow and it is more important than ever to be clear in our expectations of them. Parenting is such meaningful work and I do think there is a “design” to each family’s life that works best for them according to their values. In a nutshell, clear boundaries with room for exploration and plenty of love and support is what works for us!
Another segment of life I hope to “clear” is my home. As a busy family with growing children, we have accumulated too much stuff. I plan to develop a structured method to “declutter” and better organize our lives. While I think our home is pretty clean and fairly orderly, there are many pockets of the house that need attention. We started over Winter Break with the kids’ rooms and toy closet, so I want to keep the momentum going forward.
In general, my intention is to act and feel clearly each day in all that I do and for my surrounding environment to reflect this intention. Some would say this is being more mindful, others may see hints of minimalism…I am not labeling this trajectory as anything but a clearer path for me at this point.
What are your thoughts? Do you have a word for 2018?
