Musing: What to Do
Host a casual gathering at your home! We hosted a Soup Supper for a small group from church last night and had the best time! I prepared a vegan soup and my co-host made a meat-based soup. Each guest brought something to eat alongside our main dish.
I highly recommend bringing together multiple generations at your next intimate gathering. We hosted a variety of ages and life stages and it was a gift to spend quality time together. Plus, putting a pot of soup on is such a low-key way to entertain!
Musing: What to Eat
You probably know what I’m going to say….soup! I made a favorite soup last night and it hit the spot on a chilly, rainy night. I love this Lemony Lentil Soup and it is even better the next day. This is the soup that made my daughter realize that carrots and beans are actually tasty! Furthermore, the addition of lemon juice and zest really brighten an otherwise simple soup.
Musing: What to Read
Photo Source: The New York Times
A Facebook friend of mine recently shared this New York Times article written by his brave and eloquent colleague. Do you every struggle to find the right words to communicate with someone diagnosed with cancer or any other number of diseases? Kate Bowler recounts some of the conversations she has had with others around her Stage IV cancer diagnosis. I encourage you to read this open and honest account of her experiences with no-doubt, well-meaning people who have stuck their foot in their mouth.
Musing: What to See

I continue to watch The Crown while I run on the treadmill, however another series set in Britain has captured our attention in the evening. The BBC series Peaky Blinders is now available on Netflix.
Peaky Blinders is set in 1920’s Birmingham, England and focuses on a gang of crooks known as the “Peaky Blinders” because of the razor blades, or blinders, they keep hidden in their wool caps. The acting is very good and I am captivated by a time and place so far removed from my life. I highly recommend if you can stomach the blood and violence.
Musing: What to Listen To
I began listening to the Up and Vanished podcast in real time over a year ago. It was fascinating to follow along as the host/investigator tried to uncover what happened to a woman in Georgia named Tara Grinstead. Tara was a popular high school teacher who simply vanished one night in 2005 and her unsolved case was the largest case file in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s history.
The unique twist to this podcast is that the cold case was solved as the podcast aired….chilling and unreal and so sad…
Musing: What to Make
Have you made any New Year’s resolutions, annual goals, or affirmations for this year? I chose to set my intention for the year by choosing one word for 2018. I have already found my word to be such a guiding force over the last few weeks. My favorite word of the year is providing me with such great momentum already.
Musing: What to Wear

I bought my husband these AfterShokz headphones to wear on his trail runs. He wears them when running, around the house and when doing work on his computer. He claims they are one his favorite gifts ever!
They are bone-conduction headphones, which means they deliver music via the bone in the top of your jaw, leaving your ears open to hear ambient sounds. I wanted him to be safe to while running, but there is also the added benefit that he cannot claim he did not hear me when I am talking!
